Macrame table runner in our camper van

JULI, 23 September 2023

Hello Macrameter Friends,

A great passion of mine (apart from macrame) is camping. Last year we decided to buy a camper van and take it down to a lake side so that we have a little get away option for the weekends.

Please meet our charming, cute and comfortable camper van.

She is in her twenties so definitely not a young chick, but with some attention to detail we managed to create a lovely interior and exterior. We found the perfect location on the beach of Balaton and honestly this is such a huge  life quality upgrade. We usually come to this place Thursday evenings, work from the camper van office on Fridays and enjoy the weekends afterwards.

This year we bought an awning tent to extend our living space. It was such a good idea! And also such a good opportunity for me to make macrame decorations! I have made macrame lanterns, wall hangings and even brought some wedding decorations as well. This is basically a macrame fanatic’s dream.

Inside the van we have a medium size dining table. It looks okay, though I’m not that convinced about the table top. So I decided to create a macrame table runner that will perfectly balance out the macrame level inside and outside the camper van.

I designed it in the Macrameter designer tool and here is the before after image.

The idea was to create something simple yet have a little bit of boho in it. So I went for the combination of square knots and double half hitch knots. The pattern is very easy, and it’s basically looping through all the way till the end. The only difference is the direction of the arrow shaped double half hitch knots. I think it looks amazing.

When I was making this table runner I ran out of cords at least 20 times which was very annoying. Especially when I was doing the diagonal double half hitch knots. To be honest I tried to avoid that as much as possible, so that I only have to add extra cords at the square knots, which is a lot easier.

But all in all I have to say, after our second summer in the camper van, with all the little improvements, it feels like a second home now and it’s such a joy being here.

Happy Knotting!
